Chess Club

The Chess Club at Conway Elementary meets on Mondays from 3:15-4:15 p.m. in the Media Center. Participating students are provided with a meal at 3:00 p.m. in the cafeteria, free of charge!

Students in grades 3-5 will learn the fundamentals of chess while also incorporating lessons on critical thinking, planning, and logic. Students are encouraged to demonstrate sportsmanship and strive for success in the classroom as well as over the chessboard.

Later in the school year there will be a Chess Tournament. Top performing students will be invited to compete in the tournament which typically takes place on a Saturday. Please do not let this discourage your child from participating.

Space is limited, so please contact Meredith.bradshaw@ocps.net or Leslie.sears@ocps.net for more information.

Younger siblings (Pre-K through 2nd grade) may not join or wait for older siblings in Chess Club. They will need to depart the campus at the regular dismissal time.

Transportation is not provided, so students will need to be picked up immediately following the activity or have permission to walk home.
