Physical Education

Physical Education Class (PE)

At Conway Elementary, the Physical Education Teacher:

  • Teaches students locomotor skills (running, jumping, hopping, skipping, sliding)
  • Teaches students manipulative skills (throwing, catching, kicking, striking, dribbling)
  • Teaches students four components of physical fitness (flexibility, cardiorespiratory, muscle strength, muscle endurance)
  • Teaches students names of bones and muscles
  • Teaches students nutrition
  • Teaches students the knowledge, skills and confidence to participate in health enhancing physical activity throughout their lives.

Physical Education:

  • Increases academic learning
  • Is positively related to increased academic performance
  • Allocating time for physical education does not negatively influence academic achievement
  • Reducing time for physical education does not guarantee improvement in academic achievement
  • Higher academic achievement is associated with higher levels of physical fitness
